Electric Soul Show – Christmas Eve Show – 24th December 2008 – www.icrfm.co.uk. Ipswich Town - England

Electric Soul Show – Christmas Eve Show – 24th December 2008 – www.icrfm.co.uk - Ipswich Town - England

Christmas Eve. Yes we had reached it, but this year it falls on a Wednesday and Wednesdays means another Electric Soul Show. With that in mind I decided to start of the show with one of the biggest current Rn’b music climbers in the category at the moment. “House on a beach” (2008 release) by Glen Lewis (Los Angles, Usa) is the track to remember. Lovely summer sounding track by Glen, light, melodic and with just a touch of funk added to the mix makes this a nice tune to listen to. An artist called Floss originally put this out, but this was written and produced by Ryan Leslie USA a year earlier. It looks like Glen Lewis and his camp have bought the rights to this brilliant tune. One that I think that Floss, and Ryan Leslie let get away I think. Have a listen to this tune by clicking on the link below.

Staying with the decade of 2000, I decided to touch down with Faith Evans (Usa) “I love you” from the exact year of 2001 from the album called “Faithfully. This was her third album release at the time, and to me this was the best tune from that album. Slow to mid tempo tune this. It’s a love song in fact. But this is so well sung, and the beat is so hypnotic, even the backing singers make this tune sound extraordinary. There is an effect ridden rhythm guitar riff in the background as well, that adds weight to the song as well. Great song from Faith Evans here please has a listen the tune via clicking on the link below.

Staying with that slow to mid tempo Rn’b groove I decided on a track called “Only you”(2007 from the album called The real thing: Words and Sounds Vol:3) by Jill Scott (Usa). Like I said same type of tempo as just played before with regards to the Faith Evans tune that I had only just played. However with this track it featured a more funky approach. Opens up with a funky bass line, simple but striking piano chord structure and an equally funky sounding drum pattern. Then after about 30 seconds into the track Jill’s velvety voice kicks in which is enhanced even further by session backing singers. Another hypnotic track which is Soulful and funky at the time. I like this. I really do. Just another great track to come from this album. Have a listen by clicking on the link below.

Played this last week, and I decided to play it again this week. “Come to me” (2008 released from the album called “Retro Soul”) by The Chestnut Brothers was the tune in question. Probably the best slow soulful cut on the whole album. Both Brothers Al and Ty Chestnut combine together here to give a stunning vocal performance. It’s got that Freddie Jackson appeal if you know what I mean? It fact it’s a pure and unadulterated love tune. It has that Quiet storm music feel about it. Have a listen to the tune you will love it. Please click on the link below

Another slow to mid temp tune in regards of Rn’b music that I decided to drop from my listeners today. “Could it be”(2007 release) by L Michele was the tune in question. However instead of using a wholly funk music vibe throughout this track, Michele decided on following a Soul music approach on this cut. Good thinking as she does have wonderful talent vocal together with her backing vocals has you hooked in from the start. Have a listen to the track that was done live below via the link below, or you can go to her my space website page here:

I flipped the switch when selecting the next track to play for my listeners. This time I decided on dropping some fine old soulful and vocal House music. The track is called, “My lover”(1991 release) by Dee Dee Brave. This is old school House music but it still works. Strong four to the floor beats provides the opening for this track together with soulful vocals. Then the piano like chords starts to kick in, and an additional piano like effect (which appears to have a reverb effect on the piano) and is also added making the tune really, really funky. When the bass line is finally added we are all within its groove. What a tune! This tune does want to make groove. Have a listen you will see what I mean. Please click on the link below to listen to the tune below.

The last tune really did get me into a groove. However with the next up and coming track I wanted a more soulful and yet light Disco feel to the groove for my listeners. “Jump to my beat” (1996 release but this was the remix version by Todd Edwards) by Wild child did the trick. Light, Soul and Discos all at the time, with a host a samples within the tune that makes this so pleasant to listen to. One of the samples that I can recognise is “Jump to it” by Aretha Franklin. There are a number of different mixes on this Wild child platter track however the Todd Edwards mix has always been the one to head for. For instance just listen to that saxophone line within this tune. Please, please have a listen to this track. Just heavenly and lovely all at the same time. Please click on the link below.

Well, time had reached for me to play the Rare Groove selection part1 of the show. For those of you that listen in each week I need not say anything more. For those of you that is new to this well. Each week I play two sections of the Rare Groove selection. 3 songs in each part. These songs are either bonafide rare grooves, or songs that people have simply forgotten about. (However, if you want to know what was played in this part of the show you will have to listen to the show!)

Changed the script once again for my listeners via my music selection at this time within the show. However this time I decided on playing some Soulful Hip-hop music. In fact I played this last week so some of you should be familiar with this. The track in question was called “Life is better” (2008 released from the album called Renaissance) by Q-tip. A light vibraphone like riff greets us on the opening bars of this track, then Norah Jones voice together with the simple Hip-hop drum beats together with Rhodes like piano lines in the background makes us all smile and we are only 50 seconds into the tune. I have to say Norah Jones sounds like Jill Scott (Or could it be that Jill Scott sounds like Norah Jones). The bass line is so funky, and together with the drum line does make your head nod. However, I am in love with Norah Jones voice so light, and hits all the right spots. Then after 2 minutes into the song Q-tip enters the fray. The speed, delivery and flow of his lyrics are something to behold, and take the song to another level. Wow. Q-tip has got to have probably the most recognisable voices in Hip-hop music. However, the star of the show on this track has to be Norah Jones. Her voice is so soulful. Have a listen to this track by clicking on the link given below. You will be have this on repeat it is that good.

This next tune nearly falls within the same category as the previously played track mentioned above. However, instead of featuring more Hiphop bravado then Rn’b; with this track it’s the other way around. “Innocent man” (2008 release) by Mark Morrison (England) and DMX (USA) have a created a wonderful tune here. A mid tempo tune that has your mind, well and truly locked into the groove from the outset. A funky and yet lazy sounding bass line is aided with the whispery sounding Mark Morrison vocals. We also have the help of truly great backing vocals that makes you pay attention within the first 30 seconds of this track. I feel that this is going to be one of the first big tunes of 2009. Have a listen below via the link supplied. However, I was racking my brain when listening to this. I’m sure that I have heard this before? I think I’ve heard the artist called Cassidy perform this first. Has anyone got any news on this? Have a listen to the track via the link provided below.

A tune from London, England had reached me lately that I had grown to love. Its called “Imagine”(2008 release from the album called “Imagine me”) by Lei-an(London, England. Is a tune that you must listen to. Sounds like it could have been released in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. It has that type of vibe about it. Starts off with a nice guitar riff, then the groove kicks in together with the melody of the track. Lei-an voice finally enters the fray and I must say that it fits this song like a glove. If Uk Soul/Rn’b music is to be taken seriously then tunes like this will not harm its reputation one bit when its comes to making the soulful side of Rn’b music. It’s starting to get good airplay on the up to date Rn’b show’s here in the Uk, and surely it’s only a matter of time that the Usa picks up on this.

Well, time had reached again for me to play the Rare Groove selection part 2 of the show. For those of you that listen in each week I need not say anything more. For those of you that are new to this. Each week I play two sections of the Rare Groove selection. 3 songs within each part. These songs are either bonafide rare grooves, or songs that people have simply forgotten about. (However, if you want to know what was played in this part of the show you will have to listen to the show!)

Time was really up against me this week as I looked up at the clock. Just 5 minutes left in fact for the show to be precise. This meant that I just had one more tune to play for my listeners. And what a tune to end the show with “Bag Lady” (2000 release from the album called Mama's Gun) by Erykah Badu was the last tune of the show. A simple guitar riff starts the groove riding in the right direction together with a simple drum pattern and funky bass line makes you pay attention. But the backing vocals that are applied within this tune weave in and out of the groove already in play. Then the Billy Holliday like vocals of Erykah Badu comes into play and fits like a glove. Her voice works for this track plain and simple. Just have a listen to the track yourselves. You will see what I mean. Just click on the link mentioned below.

Well that was it for this week (The Christmas eve show). If you listened to the show for the first time then I hope that you will continue to listen in next week. I’ll have more tunes for you. If you have any comments that you wish to make about anything that I have mentioned in this weeks show; or any of the artist/s that I have managed to put down on this week Blog. Please leave your comments down on this site. I would love to hear them. Please don't be shy. Just click on the "Yellow or Blue Comments button" OK? Don't be afraid to have your say here.

If you are an up and coming artists who would like to have their material played on this show. Please get in touch. Just click on the "Yellow or Blue Comments button" OK? Don't be afraid to have your say here.

Electric Soul Show – 17th December 2008 – 105.7fm - Ipswich Town, England

Electric Soul Show – 17th December 2008 – 105.7fm - Ipswich Town, England

Once again another Wednesday had arrived. Not that I am complaining I may add because this means another Electric Soul Show could take place. I decided to start the show of with a track called “Brandi”(2008 release from the album called “Sketches of a man”) by Dwele, Usa. Nice mid tempo Rn’b cut from one of the new talents on the scene. In fact this seems more of a Neo Soul/Rn’b tune instead of a hip hop laced Rn’b tune. Dwele is building up a good reputation of putting out good quality albums (this is his third release by the way). And with songs like this, it will have not harmed his reputation no end. Dwele is not only a singer, but also a songwriter to boot and has penned most of the tracks on this album himself. He also blessed with a silky voice, which many of us would die for. Also on this track that makes even more hotter than it is. He has help from the Hip-hop group called Slum Village, who just happened to be in his neighbour (They are all from DETRIOT, USA). It’s not fair that he has all these attributes and I have none of them. Please have a listen to the tune yourselves by clicking on the link below. You won’t be disappointed.

“Look after my girl” (2008 release on the album called “Signature LP”) by Sway featuring Darren B(London, England)was the next track up. Now I have to say that this is a Hip-hop laced Rn’b tune. I make no apologies about this. Sway provides the lyrics and the rapping.Darren B wisping in and out of the tune with a creditable soulful voice that helps cements the tune as well. I have to say (in my opinion) that this is the best song on this recently released album. Nice tempo. Not too fast, not too slow. The drum pattern is very Hip-hoppish, however the music, the melody and the vocals of Darren B soften the impact somewhat and makes this a tune that you want to put on permanent repeat. Have a listen to for yourself by clicking on the link that is below so that you can hear the tune for yourself.

The next track sees me going into the direction of Neo Soul music. (I have to say that I am beginning to hate all these titles that they give music these days.) As I would simply call this next track a bonafide soul music track plain and simple. However the title of the track is called “Crown Royal”(2007 release on the album called Word and Sounds: Vol 3) by Jill Scott(USA). Atmospheric, Jazzy, Soulful vibes are all words that can be used to describe this. Aided with the fabulous voice of hers (Jill Scott), make this easily the best track on this album. The only complaint about this tune is that it is far too short; and also that it never got released commercially as a proper single release just makes you wonder what these record companies are thinking of these days. Please just listen to probably one of the best tracks that Jill Scott has ever made. Please click on the link below.

It makes me proud to play a track that can hold its own with many of the tracks that we listen to and from America. The next track that I dropped for my listeners was made and created in London, England. The track in question was “Black Rose” (2008 release from the album called “Black Rose”) by the group called Hill St.Soul. Nice mid tempo tune this that has a slight hip-hop laced beat; however the music and that lovely Angie Stone like voice from the lead singer(Hilary Mwelwa)soon mellows everything out. It fact you’ll find that this track has a trace of a funk vibe going on within the bass-line. Now this will surprise a lot of people when they first hear it. Please have a listen to this tune below yourself. You will be nodding you head to this and singing the chorus too!

Another tune from London, England reached my decks. What’s going on? “Imagine” (2008 release from the album called “Imagine me”) by Lei-an. This is a tune that you must listen to.

Over the last 3 weeks I had played tracks from the group known to us as the Chestnut Brothers (USA). They have recently released a new album for us called “Retro Soul” which is a 13-tune album, full of different vibes. This week I decided to play a track from the album called “Come to me”. Now this is ballad pure and simple? Well that’s not quite right is it? It’s a soul music ballad to be perfectly right. It reminds me slightly of the ballads that groups such as LTD would do when they were around. Does that make sense? Both Al and Ty take turns in providing us with the proper soul treatment on this cut. Got that quite storm feel all over this. For all of you love this type of Soul music have a listen to this.

Well, time had reached for me to play the Rare Groove selection part1 of the show. For those of you that listen in each week I need not say anything more. For those of you that is new to this well. Each week I play two sections of the Rare Groove selection. 3 songs in each part of the rare groove selection. These songs are either bonafide rare grooves, or songs that people have simply forgotten about. (However, if you want to know what was played in this part of the show you will have to listen to the show!)

Well, directly after those 3 tunes within the rare groove selection were played I had a call from a regular listener to the show called Phil from Witnesham, here in the county of Suffolk, in England. Phil was impressed with the tune that I had recently played called “Come to me” by the Chestnut Brothers. He wanted to know if I had a tune on me called “After the party” by Kofi. Unfortunately I stated that I didn’t bring it down with me. I stated that I would dedicate a tune for him within the show later on.

The next track up was a tune that I had recently heard when I myself was surfing the Internet myself. “House on a beach”(2008) by Glen Lewis was the track that literally stopped me in my Internet tracks. What a tune this was I thought. I had to get it. Now that I have it I wanted to share it with my listeners. And I did just that. It seems like that they have sampled the track called “Sexual healing” by Marvin Gaye within the very first part of the song and used it accordingly. A very light melody, and there seems to be some kind of echoing synth riff line going through the track, which makes it so contagious. The drum pattern is funky and simple, but light and not over powering. Then we have Glen Lewis voice to contend with, and I have to say that its spot on. To be fair he is helped on his way by some back vocalists that add the cherry to this iced dripped cake of a tune. Wow, this is going to be huge. However, there are some concerns that this tune was already put out last year by a group/or artist called “Floss” (and was original made by Ryan Leslie). Anybody knows the truth that’s going on with this track origin? Anyway until then please have a listen to this track via clicking on the link below.

I decided to change the vibe of the show by playing some Lovers Rock Reggae next. Why not this show is not and never has been geared toward the sound of Rn’b music. I try and incorporate different vibes into the show to try and make it more interesting for the listener. And with that thought I decided to drop this “Mellow” (1988 release) by the group called Intense (London, England). A nice horn section, together with a light Reggae drum pattern and soulful vibes sees us relax with this lovely Lovers Rock tune when it hits our eardrums. The vocals when introduced to us make this tune sound even better. Silky smooth vocals in which I believe that this tune could still chart to this day. You got to listen to this. Quality.

Once again I decided to drop yet another Lovers Rock Reggae tune. And this comes in the form of Maxi Priest(London, England). And this track is considered an anthem if you loved this style of Reggae music was called “Should I” (1985 release). Once again the horn section, light reggae drum pattern, the scratching sounding rhythm guitar in the background and general soulful vibes greet us when our ears first gets a listen to this tune for the very first time. Then his voice comes in. Maxi Priest voice is whom I am referring to. He puts such emotion into this song. Its also helps that he is a very good singer at the same time. Wow this song brings me back to easier times. Have a listen to it. You will fall in love with this tune as many of us did during the mid 1980’s when it first came out. Please click on the link below.

Changed the script once again for my listeners. However this time I decided on playing some Soulful Hip-hop music. Yes soulful Hip-hop music. The track in question was “Life is better”(2008 release from the album called Renaissance) by Q-tip featuring Norah Jones (USA).

Well, time had reached again for me to play the Rare Groove selection part of the show. Part 2 in fact. For those of you that listen in each week I need not say anything more. For those of you that are new to this as well. Each week I play two sections of the Rare Groove selection. 3 songs in each part. These songs are either bonafide rare grooves, or songs that people have simply forgotten about. (However, if you want to know what was played in this part of the show you will have to listen to the show!)

Well directly after the Rare Groove selection part 2 of the show (in which one of the songs within that that part of the show I decided to dedicated to Phil, (from Witnesham, Suffolk, England.) I went about playing some modern day, newly released Rn’b music.

First up is the new single from Akon (USA) called “Clap” (2008). It’s a Nice slow to mid temp Rn’b tune that seems as if it took from a very similar journey on a tune that came out last year called “Click, Click, Click” by Nasri USA (2007). There is a story going around on the Internet that Akon bought the rights to this single from Nasri who sung it first. Whoever sung the song first doesn't matter to us. What we have on our hands is a brilliant song. I haven’t heard the Nasri version if its out there. Maybe someone could give us some light over this? But forgetting that this type of Soulful Rn’b music cut is right up my street. It starts off like it has an orchestra of strings. Then it’s added to with a piano like synth riff running through the track, which is infectious. Then Akon voice jumps in. I have say this that certain people’s voices fit certain tracks. And I have to say this is the case with Akon. The drum pattern is Hip-hop ish and funky at the same time. Nothing wrong here. You have a listen. Please click on the link given to you below so that you can listen to the track.

Looking up I saw that I had about 5 minutes left with the show for this week. What to end the sow with I wonder? Hmmm. I know what. “So Fabulous” (2002 release from the album called “The Listening”) by Little Brother, USA. Wow. I know they have a sampled so obscure 1970’s Soul track but what. What I was drooling about was the groovability of this track. It sounds lazy, but it isn’t. In fact it’s so funky. I love that trumpet like sample that comes in and out of the track. Maybe 9th Wonder could helps here. Well, he was the one that got the samples in the first place for this song. The Mc’s Big Pooh and Phonte interplay with their lyrics over this sample and groove are just wonderful. The timing, delivery and flow between these two over this groove is just right. They also even do some uncanny impressions of old school era of Mc’s on this track. Don’t just go along with what I have to say about this. Please have a listen to the track below yourselves by clicking on the link supplied.

Well that was it for this week. Just click on the "Comments button" OK? Don't be afraid to have your say here.

If you are an up and coming artists who would like to have their material played on this show. Please get in touch. Just click on the "Comments button" OK? Don't be afraid to have your say here.

Electric Soul Show - 105.7fm - 10th December, 2008 - www.icrfm.co.uk

Yet another Wednesday, meant yet another Electric Soul Show.

The Date is the 10th December 2008, and for my first tune of the evening I decided on this. “Rolling down my face”(2005 release from the album called “Touch”) by Amerie (Usa). A lovely song that samples “Searching” from Roy Ayers within its composition. I love that Hip Hop drum pattern within this track although this is smooth out perfectly by the lovely voice that Amerie processes. A real nice tune to start the show of with I thought. Please have a listen to the tune yourself.Don’t believe with what I tell you.

Keeping on the more soulful side of Rn’b music it comes no better than this when selecting my next track. “Everyday” (1999 release from the album called “Black Diamond”) by Angie Stone featuring D’Angelo. The groove is slow to mid tempo on this track, which is good. The baseline is so funky on this, and so is the drum pattern at the same time. I love that Rhodes type piano effect tinkering behind in the background. But its all cemented well into place by that wonderful voice that Angie Stone has. This tune is still so soulful and hits all the right points even when been played on the show today. A classic Soul type tune. Please listen to the tune yourself via clicking on the link provided below.

I decided to stay with Soul Music vibe yet again in regards to my next selection for the show. “You”(2005 release from the album called “The Love Experience”) by Raheem Devaughan. I have to say that this is just a quality piece of Soul music engineered here by Raheem Devaughan. I know fans of Soul music fans of a certain generation might well say there will never ever be a period that will close to touching the steady heights of the 1960’s or 1970’s for great Soul music. Well, this isn’t that far off I tell you. Wonderfully sung by Mr.Devaughn. He manages to insert so much emotion into a tune that is just heavenly. This song samples a little bit of the track called “Moments in love” by the Art of Noise in its composition. Wow you learn something everyday don’t you? Just a great piece of Soul music that was made in the decade of 2000; and you don’t here that everyday mentioned do you? Please listen to the track below, if you would like here for yourself.

Well, here’s a track from whom I call the Prince of Rn’b music today into today climate. He’s name is Donnell Jones; and really in my opinion he should be named the King of RNB music.Well, here is one of his latest tracks out for 2008. “Cool on you”. This is set at a nice mid temp groove that is accompanied with that tingling piano riff in the background. This allows for Donnell Jones vocals to soar and sooth you at the same time. The background vocalists also help on this track making it sound polished. Just a real cool tune from the Prince. Have a listen to the track yourselves don’t just believe me.

I decided on some Soulful Hip hop music to help the change the direction of the show and make it more interesting for my listeners. With that in mind I decided to select a track from Q-TIP and his new album, which is called Renaissance (2008 release). The track that I decided to play for my listeners was called “Getting Up”.Lovely, lovely tune this is which samples Black Ivory’s “You and I” (1970 Release) to the max. However, it sounds just prefect and is well incorporated within Q-Tip’s “Getting Up”. I love the “flow” of the Rap that is supplied here by Q-Tip. Never hurried or out of sync at anytime. Just right on the money. This is a prefect example of how Soul music and Hip-hop can work together in prefect harmony. I hope my listeners liked this tune, because I sure do. Have a listen yourself. I am sure you will agree.

Staying with Hip-hop music for just one more tune at the very least. I decided to go with a track from the group known as Foreign Exchange. I have played a tune of there’s on the show in various forms over the last 3 to 4 weeks. This week I decided on a tune called “Raw Life”(2005 release – from the album called “Connected”). Still soulful, however the lyrics are much more harder and more angrier than “Getting Up. There are two rappers that take turns at the lyrics on this track and it seemed to have worked (Phonte and Joe Scudda) on this track. It does feature a few F rated words to be honest, and that spoils it some what. But the groove and the music, plus the flow and story telling of the rappers will have fans of this type of HipHop music wanting more. Good track by the boys. Have a listen.

Well, time had reached for me to play the Rare Groove selection part of the show. For those of you that listen in each week I need not say anything more. For those of you that is new to this well. Each week I play two sections of the Rare Groove selection. 3 songs in each part. These songs are either bonifideRare grooves, or songs that people have simply forgotten about. (However, if you want to know what was played in this part of the show you will have to listen to the show!)

Next track up straight after the Rare Groove selection part 1 of the show was a tune from the Uk. Yes one from good old blightly.“Look after my girl”(2008 release) by Sway featuring Darren B. Is a tune that I like. A simple Hip-hop driven tune that features a nice dash of Rn’b music within the composition as well. I like the lyrics, the storyline and the flow of the rap that is supplied by Sway. The music that is the background is light and mellow enough for the rapper and the background singer take to this. Instead of me going on please have a listen to this track. I think you will like it.

The next has featured quite a few times on this show, and is yet another tune from the Uk. This time on the plate is the favourite called “Slow” by Don-e featuring Lornette Ford (2006 release from the album called “Try this”). I still adore this track. Another tune to show to anyone who loves soul from the 1960’s and 1970’s only that they missing out if they just stuck in that decade. Wonderful whisper like vocals from Don-e, and the backing vocals from Lornette Ford are right on the money. The music that is supplied is light and carefree. I have to say that if they can produce a track like this, I want to more. This is delightful. If you are Soul music head you will love this. Please have a listen by going to Don-e myspace website by using this website address.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=54659434

Another track that I have played recently featured and again on this weeks show was, “Whole lotta you in me” by the Chestnut Brothers (2008 release from the album called “Retro Soul”). Best track on the album for me still. Has the groove, the beat and the voices on this track that makes it stands out from the rest. Can’t find anything wrong with it. You have a listen and see if you can?

Decided to drop some Gospel music on my next selection. I haven’t played Gospel music within the show for over a month. However it doesn’t come better then this. “Call me” by Shei Atkins (2006 release from the album called “The Lite Mae Show”) is the track in question. This track starts of with a Hip Hop like drum pattern, which gives it an edge. Shei Atkins vocals comes in together with the music, and it all fits like a glove. Sounds very Rn’bish to be honest, but made even better with that Hiphop like Drum pattern and Shei’s wonderful voice. I tell you that this track is better then many of today contemporary Rnb tracks. Any of you that are familiar with the Electric Soul show will have heard of this name.BA NUSANE. He is from London, England, and over the last 2 months I have played various tracks from him that he has sent into to me. This week I decided to play a track called “Anything” (2008). I have played this before on the show, but I make not apologises on playing this again. A nice acoustic track, which allows us to hear BA Nusance, armed with just a guitar, some background vocals and him on lead vocals. Seems sparse, but actually it works. Nice tune BA. Have a listen to the track yourselves by clicking on the link below for his myspace website.

Well time was nearly up for me for this weeks show. One more tune to play for my listeners. I decided to end the show with this. “Just be friends”(2008 release from the album called “New Man”) by Joe. This is another good slice of the very Soulful side of RNB music. Music is light by not light to not too able to appreciate it. And there’s Joe's voice. Its so silky, silky smooth. Wow this man can sing. Don’t take my word for it has a listen to it yourself. Please click on the link sited below.

If you listened to the show for the first time then I hope that you will continue to listening in next week. I’ll have more tunes for you. If you have any comments that you wish to make about anything that I have mentioned in this weeks show; or any of the artist/s that I have managed to put down on this week Blog. Please leave your comments down on this site. I would love to hear them.

If you are an up and coming artists who would like to have their material played on this show. Please get in touch. Leave all messages or comments via pressing the "Yellow or blue comments" button below this message. Please don't be shy!

re: Electric Soul Show - 3rd December, 2008

Wow is it Wednesday again so soon? That means another Electric Soul show doesn't it? Ok I'd better get started then.

Well, this week I decided to start the show with this track. "That's what I am talking about"(2008 release) by Pete Rock featuring Rell. A Rnb tune with a Rap provided by Pete Rock half the way through the song. Its a nice tune this. Rn'b music with a creditable rap going through it. I haven't really heard a bad song yet from Rell, even though this song belongs to Pete Rock (as its of his latest album called "New York Finest" - 2008 release). Nice and Soulful but also features a nice funky mid tempo groove at the same time. A good tune to start of the show with I thought. Please have a listen to it via click on the link provided for you below.

"Why you wanna play your games on me"(1995 release) by Chuckii Brooker was the next tune up on the schedule. A Lovely mid temp Soul cut that should have seen Chuckki create a bigger name for himself than he did. On a cold evening such as this I'm sure that this warmed everyone else up. Wonderful single from the 1990's. It still sounds good even now. Please have a listen to the tune below for yourselves.

Going back in time now, but keeping with the vibe of Soul music. I decided to drop this beauty. "I get high (On your memory)" (1977) by Freda Payne. Wow, this is even more soulful then the last cut. I just love the line "I get high," line that repeats its self a few times then moves onto "On your memories". Freda Payne is best known for her 1970's hit that she had which was called "Band of Gold". But this is even better in my opinion. This is timeless Soul music. I'm sure that my listeners loved this. Please click on the link that I have provided below so that you can listen to this classic yourselves.

I must have been on the Soul train because the next track saw me select yet another quality Soul cut. However, this one was made in 2008, and yet it sounded as if this one could have been 1968.
The track in question was "Never give you up" by Rapheal Sadiqq featuring CJ Hilton and Steve Wonder. Another quality track here, that only is spoiled by the fact that we don't hear Stevie Wonders voice on this tune, only when he plays the Harmonica. In fact if you were to listen to the new album that this comes from - The way I see it (Released 16th September, 2008), you see what I mean. This sounds as if it was produced either by Motown Records or Staxx Records. But that aside. Its a wonderful slice of Soul Music. Easily the best track from that album. Listen for yourself by clicking on the link below.

Well, I'm a person that likes to support undiscovered talent where ever they may lie. With that in mind I had up next to play "Girls"(2008) from the group called The Chestnut Brothers (Atlanta, USA) on the album called "Retro Soul"(2008 release). Played this last week as it happens on this show. My love for this track hasn't diminished. It starts with Indian sounding percussion and drums which makes you pay attention. Then the main groove and music kicks in finally followed by that voice. Yes I'm loving this track. I sure you will too? Please have a look at their website to find out more about this group and their brand new album release. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Well, after so much Soul music, I decided to change the script so to speak. Lovers Rock Reggae tune was no the order of the say I thought. Well, I decided on this "Mellow"(1988) by Intense (London, England). This is a very good tune. Much more simple to create then the previously heard song. But a good tune is a good tune how difficult or simple it may sound to you. The bass line of this song just rolls along together with the drums; and the guitar in the background seems as if its scratching along nicely as well. The Horn section that is playing in this tune doesn't drown the lead singer or the background singers. Such a soulful song. Yes soulful. Have a listen to it, to see what I mean. Please click on this track to see what I mean. You will love it.

Staying on the vibe with Lovers Rock Reggae music. I decided on this tune for my next selection. "Put it on"(1981 release) by Sandra Cross (London, England). Lovers Rock Reggae sounds so simple to make. However, its not the simplicity of the tune that should concern you here. Its the vibe, the groove and the soulfulness of it all. And this tune has all that and more. A great tune. Its a pity that this gender of music doesn't get the recognition that Dancehall Reggae seems to get around the world. Anyway have a listen to this tune and be spoiled. Please click on the link below.

Well, time had reached for me to play the Rare Groove selection part of the show. For those of you that listen in each week I need not say anything more. For those of you that are new to this well. Each week I play two sections of the Rare Groove selection. 3 songs in each part. These songs are either bonafide Rare grooves, or songs that people have simply forgotten about. (However, if you want to know what was played in this part of the show you
will have to listen to the show!)

As the last throes of the last song within the Rare Groove selection was finishing. I had already decided on playing some Soulful and Jazzy house music. I wasn't resting on my laurels here. This a nice instrumental cut that I'm sure that my listeners would love. "When You Love Someone (Groove Instrumental mix -1993 release - written by Daphne Rubin Vega, Pete Daou and Vanessa Daou) by Daphne. For sheer grooveability this song takes some beating. Its a House track though no question. You can tell by the 4 to the floor drum pattern. However, its the Rhodes like piano and the vibraphone like touches and jazz chords in the background that make this song a delight. What is the word that I'm looking for on this track? Oh yes, Classy. Yes classy is the word. Have a listen to the tune below by clicking on the link below.

Staying on the Soulful side of House this time instead of Soul/Jazz House music. I decided to go along with this track."Your Sweet Loving" (2000) by Moodymann ( Real name - Kenny Dixon, Junior). Wow this is so soulful, and church like that it hurts. Beautiful grooves laid down ever so carefully by the MoodyMann. Sorry Kenny Dixon Junior. I love the addition of the "cooing type vocals" that were used this on single. However, what I would love to know is what jazz sample/s he used on this track. This is a side of House music that I will always jump to. I just hoped my listeners would too. I have played this recently on the show, and it still sound the "bomb" then as it sounds now. Great track. Now you have a listen by clicking on the link below.

Well, it was time to move away from the House vibe before I got stuck in for the rest of the show.
Next track that was selected was this. "Daydreaming" (2008 release) by Foreign Exchange featuring feat.Muhsinah (Usa). An atmospheric cut that has a Rnb vibe about it. This track is to be found on the recently released album called "Leave it all behind" (2008 release) by the group. Mellow cut. That is just what you need on a winters evening like this. Foreign Exchange have built up a strong fan base in the USA, via its debut album called "Connected" which was released in 2004. It was a Hip Hop album that caught the underground world attention then. And now there seemed to have caught the underground Rnb/Soul world attention this time around. Nice tune this one. Not the best track on the album. But a nice tune.

Last track before I went into the Rare Groove Selection part 2 of the show saw me once again playing a track from The Chestnut Brothers. "Whole lotta you in me" (2008 release from the album called "Retro Soul") (2008 release) is my favourite from the album. The start or build up of the track is great. Then that voice kicks in. Reminds me of every so slightly of Ron Banks (The former lead singer of the 1970's Soul group called the Dramatics).A nice mid tempo Soul cut with just a slight tinge of funk within the composition. In my opinion many people on purchasing this album will quickly make this their favourite cut.Reminds me so much of the early 1980's soul/funk music scene as tunes like this were the norm. Played this last week, and this hasn't diminished in my love for this track. More please Chestnut brothers. Please listen to the track yourselves below by clicking on the image link.

Well, I ended the show with the playing the second of part of the Rare Groove selection part 2 on the show. No I'm not going to tell you what I played. Listen in, and you will find out.

Well, time is now up.....and I'm away until next Wednesday show. If you want to leave any comments that I have made about any tracks that were played; or any stories that I mentioned relating to the tracks as well.
